THE SCIENCE OF COOKING -- DAY 3 -- JULY 10 by Norman, India, Kaiyah, Dominic, and Daeyahn

Today in science we learned about density and we used bobs to measure mass and volume. In math we learned how to plot points. We then ate lunch, had recess, and did a writing relay race. In language arts, we read, typed, and enjoyed learning. Then we went to cook with Dr. Beth and Dean Silver. We had an awesome vegetarian dinner. The preparation took some hard work to complete. We chopped up veggies and fruits, and then made coleslaw, chili, fruit salad, rice, and a fruit crisp. We also learned how to cook veggies by steaming, boiling, and sautéing. After dinner we had vanilla ice cream and it was delicious.
Chili Recipe (by Daeyahn and Dominic)
First we cut up squash, celery, and carrots. Then we mixed everything together in a bowl. Dr. Beth put the onions in olive oil, and cooked them until they were brown. Then she added peppers, pinto beans, and kidney beans. Next, she combined the onions, beans, and carrots she prepared. She then added tomato sauce and mixed everything together. Dr. Beth then added a little salt and garlic for flavor and let it cook.
Fruit Crisp (by Norman)
1.We had to peel the apples.
2.We then cut the watermelon and cantaloupe, and cut the seeds out.
3.We then pitted the cherries.
4.We then mixed everything in a dish.
5.We then put oatmeal on top.
6.We then added maple syrup on top.
We then cooked it.
